Reginald Virgil is the President and Co-founder of Black Lives Matter Mississippi. Virgil is a native of Hattiesburg, MS who grew up in Petal, MS as well. He received his bachelor's degree in social work from the School of Social Work at the University of Southern Mississippi in 2018. During his time in undergrad, Mr. Virgil, organized and facilitated forum discussions addressing issues of racism that started in the Social Work program. "Keep Calm Let's Discuss Racism", was the name of the forum discussion that he started in 2016. He has presented at National Association of Social Workers conferences in Mississippi and Florida, to present his findings assessing one's comfort level when discussing racism with others outside their perceived race, based on the forum discussion "Keep Calm Let's Discuss Racism". This type of work led him to become an activist and increase his involvement with community engagement. Currently, Virgil is working on his Masters in Social Work and Economic Development Certification through the University of Southern Mississippi.
