Danielle Buckingham, affectionately known as Dani Bee, is a Chicago-born, Mississippi-raised writer and creative from Louisville, Mississippi. After graduating from Millsaps college in 2015, Dani received a Master’s in Sociology from the University of Mississippi. While working as a graduate instructor at the university, she decided to pursue a second Master’s in Southern Studies. Her thesis is a documentary project centering Black LGBTQ+ Southerners. In addition to her academic work, Dani is also a writer. She has received support from Voices of Our Nation (VONA), the Hurston Wright Foundation, and was a 2021 Lambda Literary Nonfiction fellow. Dani’s writing has been published or is forthcoming in Midnight & Indigo literary magazine, New Orleans Review, Raising Mothers, and elsewhere.
